I’m Still Gonna Git You Sucka

Friday, June 8th, 2012

When I posted excerpts from the I’m Gonna Git You Sucka soundtrack a few weeks ago (which can be found here) there were a few comments about the singles from the album, and the remixes they contained. I didn’t even know such singles existed! So I thank those who mentioned them. The Discogs merchants from whom I bought them from probably thank you as well. And now all the readers should thank you too, because here are some remixes from the said singles.

Boogie Down Productions
Jack Of Spades (Extended Remix)
Jack Of Spades (Instrumental)
I’m Still #1 (Extended Remix)
I’m Still #1 (Numero Uno Re-Recording)
How bad-ass is KRS-One? So bad-ass that he sounds like a mean motherfucker even when he’s rapping about a character in a Wayans Brothers comedy. That’s pretty damn mean. “Jack Of Spades” is pretty much just a rap re-telling of Jack’s story arc in I’m Gonna Git You Sucka, so I guess the song should feature a spoiler warning if you’re still interested in seeing the movie.

“I’m Still #1″ wasn’t on the I’m Gonna Git You Sucka” soundtrack, so instead of being about how awesome Jack Spade is, it’s about how awesome KRS-One and crew are. His argument is pretty convincing.

K-9 Posse
This Beat Is Military (Hard Corps Version)
This Beat Is Military (Hard Corps Radio Edit)
This Beat Is Military (Hard Corps Dub)
This Beat Is Military (Basic Training Version)
Turn That Down
When I previously talked about this tune I described it as one of the most brilliantly stupid rap songs of all time, and I still love it for its unwillingness to veer away from the “I’m as hardcore as a major military force” metaphor. As for these alternate versions, the “Hard Corps Version” is pretty similar to the original aside from some added beats, while the dub and radio edits speak for themselves. The “Basic Training Version” is radically different though, no A-Team opening (sadly) and the hard-pounding military-inspired beats are cut and replacesdwith some really out-of-place keyboard loops. It also puts a really big emphasis on the line “Def Jam? What’s that? Are we cut?” I sense a beef there. Finally there’s “Turn That Down,” and while that may sound like a different song, it’s really just an instrumental/dub version of the “Basic Training Version.” They keep in an opening Def Jam dis though.

Man, I really want to know what went down between the K-9 Posse and Def Jam, they seemed pissed.

Now for some non-I’m Gonna Git You Sucka hip-hop that I’ve been hanging on to for a bit.

Run-D.M.C.
30 Days (Instrumental)
Sure, this probably appeals to about five people. But I got it, so here it is, a seven-and-a-half minute instrumental version of a Run-D.M.C. song. Enjoy

Mantronix
Bassline (Club Version)
Bassline (Instrumental)
Bassline (Radio Version)
Technically this isn’t hip-hop, it’s electro, but whatever.

I Got The Power! But I can’t find the right adapter.

Okay, this week I actually am busy because of work. Tons of stuff to review, very little time. I also had to interview a musician who was…less than an ideal interview, which created some backlog in my other work.

Good news though! Well, maybe. I might by interviewing Don Letts for ESDmusic. Now, for those of you not in the know, Don Letts was a member of Big Audio Dynamite in the early days, and played on tracks like E=MC2 and “The Bottom Line.” He was also associated with The Clash throughout their career, and directed nearly all of their music videos, the documentary Westway to the World and the early punk rock concert film The Punk Rock Movie. So if anyone has any questions they think I should as Don Letts please tell me in the comments section.

Another brief post this week, I promise to make up for it next time.

It’s Tricky 2003 (Master Mix feat. Jacknife Lee)
It’s Tricky 2003 (JKL Club Mix feat. Jacknife Lee)
Peter Piper 2003 (Riton Remix feat. Riton)

In addition to my interview I got another assignment for y’all. These are from a bootleg white label. I have no idea who did these remixes or what they are called. If anyone can inform me of their name/origin (with some sort of proof to back it up) I would be grateful and hook a brother up. Mystery solved! Thanks for the help everyone!

Snap vs. Motivo
The Power (Of Bhangra) (Extended Bhangra Mix)
The Power (Of Bhangra) (Club Mix)

Yup, it’s an Indian dance remix of The Power. It’s eight times as stupid as it sounds.

Sucka MCs Should Call Me Sometime

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

First of all, shout outs to everyone who hooked me up with those Janet Jackson remixes. I will be hosting them myself in a few days, so if you can’t get the files from the comment section just hold tight.

Now, without further ado here is my promised totally amazing old-school(ish) hip-hop post. Next up will be some ultra-bizarre/obscure/alternative hip-hop, which I hope to get up tomorrow. Until then, peace out my homies.

2 Live Crew
We Want Some Pussy (89′ House Mix)
We Want Some Pussy (The Classic “Dance”)
We Want Some Pussy (Liberty City Long Hard Mix)
We Want Some Pussy (Live In Concert)
So many things to talk about with this one. There’s the label art (classy), this AMAZING brochure I found in the sleeve, and ever-present 2 Live Crew disclaimer, “Unauthorized duplication wil get you messed up by the The Ghetto Style DJs.” Then there’s the song itself, a classic if there ever was one. Actually, no sarcasm aside this is a pretty damn good old-school rap song and you can’t deny that it’s catchy as hell. The house remix is full of recognizable samples, it has the James Brown “Oh! Yeah!” that you probably know from “It Takes Two” as well as a synth note from “Trans-Europe Express”/”Planet Rock.” The Liberty City mix also has a kickin’ guitar riff, but I can’t place it. If anyone knows where that sample came from please let me know. Be warned, this is 20 plus minutes of “We Want Some Pussy.” After listening to all 20 minutes multiple times it’s fairly obvious to me that these motherfuckers wanted their fucking pussy. I hope they got it.

Run D.M.C.
King Of Rock (Cut-Up Mix)
Call up a friend when you’re listening to this one and when they ask you what you’re doing say, “Listing to the best track of all time motherfucker, what are YOU doing?” Taken from a 12” single.

Beastie Boys
Intergalactic (Instrumental)
Intergalactic (The Strawberry Bath and Jelly Soles Instrumental Version)
Super-bummed about MCA’s cancer diagnosis. Was stoked to see these guys kick it old school (really old school, dudes are over 40) at Lollapalooza this year. But I guess that will have to wait. Word just came out that The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are replacing them as headliners that day. That’s cool, but they better do a cover of “Sabotage” in tribute. These instrumentals are from a 12”.

Mix Master Mike
Can of Ass Kicks (2 min Itchy Flea Bonus)
Bangzilla (Instrumental)
The i Micronaut
Can’t mention The Beasties without mentioning The Mix Master. These are B-sides from a couple of 12” singles. For more Mix Master goodness check out the live video for “Three MCs and One DJ.”
