Because 66.5 Days is a Shitty Name for a Movie

Thanks everyone for the blog suggestions, as you may notice, the blogroll to the right has been vastly updated and improved tremendously.

And thanks to everyone who recommended Burning The Ground. Now I have blog envy.

John Taylor
I Do What I Do…(Theme For 9 1/2 Weeks) (Film Mix)
I Do What I Do…(Theme For 9 1/2 Weeks) (Extended Club Mix)
Jazz
“I Do What I Do…(Theme For 9 1/2 Weeks)” was nominated for a Razzie (the “awards” for the worst in film) when it came out. And sure, this song isn’t a classic, but worst song from a movie in 1986? It’s not even close. I just think that they wanted to shit all over John Taylor (the bass player from Duran Duran, by the way) because they were jealous of his fabulous hair.

In case you were wondering, the “winner” that year was Prince’s “Love Or Money” from Under The Cherry Moon, while the other nominees included George Harrison’s “Shanghai Surprise” from Shanghai Surprise, “Life in a Looking Glass by Henry Mancini for That’s Life! and Thomas Dolby’s “Howard The Duck” from…Howard The Duck (duh, although wouldn’t have it been awesome if that song was from Maximum Overdrive?).

Okay, first of all, “Howard The Duck” is an awesome track from an even more awesome movie (that’s right, I said it) so the Razzies can go fuck themselves based on that alone.

Secondly, I do recall that Michael Mann’s Manhunter (wow, when you say it like that it sounds really weird) came out that year, and that soundtrack was more than worthy of a Razzie or twenty. Other songs that should have been up for nomination include any non-Queen track from the Iron Eagle soundtrack and any song that was in The Golden Child strictly because of guilt by association.

Anyways, these remixes (as well as the B-side “Jazz”) are from two 12″ singles for the song. I enjoy them in all their cheesy splendor. If nothing else they’re certainly better than the film 9 1/2 Weeks.

Then again, most things are.

Nitzer Ebb
I Give To You (Wilder Mix Full Version)
I Give To You (Elemental)
I Give To You (Pestilence)
Holy shit on a dumptruck this is a great track. Why don’t I own more Nitzer Ebb? I need to fix that. These are all from a 12″ single.

I don’t go much on the ‘Vinyl Villain’ one, jeeze i’m trying 2 4get the boring indie/late 80’s scene where students walked around in crombies depressed listening 2 The Smiths. Bloody spongers,if they worked 4 peanuts in crap dead end jobs like i did then, they’d have something 2 b depressed about! Plus New Orders only decent tracks r Blue Monday(Original,D.M.C. or Jam & Spoon Mix),Thieves Like Us & Confusion(in that order)!

excellent find on the nitzer ebb single. that track has got to be my favorite track on “ebbhead”. i need to go to my record store one of these days and see if anyone has sold any nitzer ebb singles hehe.

However that ‘Castles…’ one is nearly my fave overall blog now. Just 4 the small amount of Warp stuff he posted.

I’m guessing whoever selected those songs for the Razzies just went by which movies were the biggest busts, because “Shanghai Surprise” is a fine little pop song by the Quiet One.

I used to go to Burning the Ground regularly but then the dude who runs it stated asking people who came by his blog for money and that was it. Send me money to host pirated stuff…really not cool. I don’t care if it is supposed to offset his expensive toys that he uses to record with.
A few posters commented on this and things exploded, when he started telling people to fuck off (literally) I left a comment saying that I thought he needed to examine his values and maybe grow up a bit, and I haven’t gone there since.

  6. Tim says:

Dolby’s ”Don’t Turn Away” from the Howard the Duck soundtrack has aged better than a lot of stuff from his ”Flat Earth” album (the closest release of his contemporary to HTD).

Meh, running an MP3 blog can be expensive, and you can’t run ads because then you’ll get shutdown in a heartbeat, so I get where he’s coming from, even if I don’t agree.

And me condemning people for telling others to ‘fuck off’ would be super-hypocritical.

  8. Music Archives says:

think that mix is cool should get the 10” version as well

One (huge) bonus for your blog over Burning the Ground and others is how you post files without having to go to Multiupload or other services. I’ve paid to be a premium user for a couple of them for a month at a time, and they always seemto change the rules and/or make it way too difficult for me to continue subscribing.

I appreciate the direct downloads…and of course the commentary…even (especially?) when you tell people to “fuck off”.
