Merry Vodka!

Update: Okay, so the next time I realize something I’m doing is a horrible idea, perhaps I should listen to my inner self and not do it. That way I don’t get corrected by two rightfully pissed off people.

The idea of posting “Millie Pulled a Pistol on Santa” as a joke Christmas song was a really stupid idea, not to mention offensive and in pretty bad taste. Joking about topics like that isn’t cool, and help to perpetuate a culture that accepts it. I don’t know what I was thinking when I decided it would be a good idea, actually I probably wasn’t thinking at all. I’m sorry, it wasn’t funny, it wasn’t smart and it wasn’t witty. It was stupid.

I’m not changing what I wrote, I feel that part of owning up to mistakes is to leave them for everyone to see, but I wanted to include this apology with the post so everyone knows that it was something I should not have done.

OMG I’m in Toledo! Oh, the horror, the horror of it all. I’m away from my home, my friends, my fish and my turntable (sob!). Worst of all, I’m away from Pac-Man Championship Edition DX. Where, the last I checked, I was ranked as the 16th best player in the world! I need my Pac-Man fix, for reals. I’m gonna start hallucinating little yellow pellets and ghosts soon. Or maybe that’s just the vodka. Mmm…vodka.

Wait, what was I complaining about again?

Keepin’ The Faith (Straight Pass)

Yup, here’s my big Christmas song, a track about a topic so dark and disturbing that I’m not going to mention it because I don’t want to trigger anyone. Y’know, the idea of making it my blog’s Christmas song seemed a lot funnier in my head. Oh well, I’ve never been one to back away from a horrible idea! “Millie Pulled a Pistol on Santa” is a great track, even if it is a little bit of a downer for the holidays. After you listen to it and get depressed, listen to “Keepin’ the Faith” to cheer yourself up. It’s a happy tune! And if you still need some good seasonal music go listen to “Fairytale In New York.”

Purple Medley (Edit)
Purple Medley
And shit, if “Keepin’ The Faith” can’t get you in an upbeat mood, then the full length “Purple Medley” which features about 80 bagillion different Prince songs, should get you out of any holiday funk. Ironic since it, in itself, is nothing but funk. These are from a 12” single. To my knowledge neither version of the “Purple Medley” have ever been released on any album.

Thanx 4 the Prince Medley-will listen 2 it later. But bigger thanx 4 the ‘De La Soul’ track ‘Keepin The Faith’-i’ll be whistling that all thru the new year as that tune is so catchy.
    Merry xmas Lost Turntable! d;O)>

🙁 Is that song supposed to be funny? :((

    Look DJ,
There’s nothing wrong with posting some dark humor now & then.
I thought it was kinda funny – like that “Bad Santa” movie, even though I’m not usually a rap fan.
    But you know what?
It doesn’t really matter what anyone thinks because…
    IT’S YOUR BLOG!
YOU DECIDE WHAT YOU WANNA POST OR NOT!
If some people can’t take a joke, then guess what?
They can turn it off & move onto the next post.
Or find a new blog to read. Who really cares?
You are not going to please 100% of the people all of the time.
But please Lost Turntable DJ, don’t second guess yourself or self-censor.
Your blog will be blah blah blah & you will not only cheating yourself but your readers/listeners as well!

Prince would tell you it was kinda fun (and profitable) – pissing off all those angry parents by adding “Darling Nikki” to his “Purple Rain” album by the way…

    Thanks for the apology 🙂
    Merry Christmas!

You’re right. It is my blog. So I’ll say what I want. And I wanted to apologize because what I said wasn’t funny and in poor taste. But it does matter what other people think, because I want people to respect and read this site. So, if you don’t like it maybe you can find a new blog to read.

Prince rocking an awesome song about nasty sex and me stupidly making a throwaway joke about rape are not the same thing.

Thanks again for sharing all the tunes. I have the Purple Medley but it’s nice to have the Edited version for the collection 🙂

I appreciate the apology you made and your take on being completely honest, though I was not offended myself by the post (probably because I live in a country where gun violence, thankfully, isn’t a problem like it is in the US and I know it’s music after all).

Lemme get this straight…you’re sore at me for defending your right to post the songs you chose to post, then cave into apology under pressure, but still refuse to remove the “offensive” song while claiming an apology at the same time?

Just an observation: You are the only DJ I know who takes a fantastic experience like Lollapalooza & chooses to provide multiple photos about all the people who irritated you during the concert on your blog.
I also noticed on a recent post you went on & on in great detail about the kids you can’t stand & made fun of the way they dressed…which also disturbed you greatly…I suppose.
I guess you are right…time for me to move on because the focus of this blog doesn’t seem to be so much about the music as the people who annoy you.
Who knows? You might have just inspired me to start my own blog & post songs that aren’t all that “PC” like Nirvanna’s “Rape Me” or “Jeannie” by Falco.
Thanks again for the great tunes you have posted in the past.
Wishing you all the best in 2011.

I’m not sore at you for anything! I just don’t think you really understood why I apologized for that post. I didn’t “cave into apology under pressure.” No one can “make” me say or do anything. I can take their advice and criticism though, and based on that I may or may not change my mind about what I say and how I say it.

People I respect took offense to the comments I made about the song, not the song itself. There’s nothing wrong with that song, I just framed it in the wrong way. I remove nothing from my blog, especially my own fuck ups, because I DON’T believe in censorship.

And teasing assholes for being assholes, or commenting on what I feel are disturbing trends in pop culture, are not the same thing as making jokes much more serious topics like rape.

I hope I’ve clarified this issue a bit. I really don’t want to talk about it anymore. You’re a fan of my blog, I’ve noticed your comments over the years! So I hope I didn’t piss you off enough for you to leave. You certainly are one of the most interesting commentors here!

And by the way “Rape Me” is one of my favorite songs of all time. So if you do decide to start your own blog that’ll be a good starter post.
