Regarding the edit question:

My vinyl (download) of ‘Thin White Duke’ had an edit during Stay, only a very brief bit cut out of solo near the end. I realized when comparing it to the Rykodisk version.

So I guess they did the same with the drum solo, on side-b I presume.

I like what they did with the recording on the official release. The audience gave the bootleg incredible energy but it did drown out much of the instrumental nuance. Waiting For The Man is a treat. Definitely David’s best live recording!

Have also purchased this excellent set, and also very irritated about the difficulty finding the full Panic online. I can’t find words to describe quite how cool that drum solo is. Will you be making your own edit/fix available again?

Actually, I like having “the same thing with a few extras.” Special Editions make record companies shitloads of money, and they aren’t screwing anyone over since they only appeal to a very small market.

What isn’t cool is when the Special Editions don’t contain the “same thing” but less things. Which is the case here.

These rip-off “special editions” from the record companies are the reason file-sharing is so prevalent – I don’t mind paying for audio (though I do prefer lossless quality) but I’m fucked if I’m letting the big , greedy conglomerates screw me twice for what is essentially the same thing with a few extras. NO!!!

Ive had a bootleg cd of this gig for many years, and this has the full drum solo on it. One thing I always thought, if you listen to the Bowie drum solo, and then listen to Morrissey’s ‘The Operation’ from Southpaw Grammar, seems very close. Morrissey must have listened to the bootleg at some point. Thanks for the greta regular blogs.
